SAMPLE LETTER

Here are some ideas of things to discuss in your letter and how to format your letter.

Date:

Dear Nevada Parole Board:

My name is [your name] and I am writing you on behalf of Nicco Tatum who is eligible for parole on 3/8/2026.

[Describe your relationship with Nicco– how you know him, how long you have known him, etc.]

[Do not discuss the charges against Nicco or tell the board that you know Nicco could never do anything like that. What is most helpful is to explain what you know about Nicco’s positive character traits and how he has changed since the beginning of his incarceration so that the board can see a different side of him and take this information into consideration.]

[Describe Nicco as a person, the good things he has done, any challenges he has overcome, the type of person that he is, what the future holds for him, what you respect the most about him, etc. Get specific and make the letter your own by describing specific incidents that show the type of person that Nicco is - that he is a good worker and a kind person, for example. Here, you may find it helpful to talk about Nicco’s upbringing, his accomplishments, and what he is like as a friend or family member.]

[You may want to conclude by thanking the board and telling them outcome you hope for – for example, that the board allows Nicco to move past this incident and be a productive member of society.]

                                                                                                Sincerely,

                                                                                                [Your Signature]
